Your profile:

a completed Masters degree in linguistics or a comparable field, as
well as thematically relevant, above-average Master’s thesis
familiarity with participatory research, empirical and theoretical
linguistics, as well as corpus and experimental linguistics is advantageous.

and offers the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.

The above project consists of two closely collaborating sub-projects on
spoken and sign languages, with one open position at the University of
Göttingen (Sign Languages, PI Prof. Dr. Markus Steinbach) and one open
position at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (Spoken Languages, PI

Ihr Profil:

ein abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium in der
Linguistik oder einem vergleichbaren Fach sowie eine thematisch

Aufgabenbereich:
Ihre zukünftigen Aufgaben umfassen:

wissenschaftliche Forschung zu den Themenbereichen Semantik, Pragmatik und/oder experimenteller Linguistik Planung, Entwicklung und Evaluation von Lehrveranstaltungen
Durchführung von Lehrveranstaltungen (4 LVS/Semester) im BA- und MA-Studiengang Linguistik im Bereich (theoretische) Semantik und Pragmatik. Die konkrete inhaltliche Ausrichtung der Seminare orientiert sich am Profil der Stelleninhaberin; möglich sind sowohl theoretische als auch experimentell- und methodenorientierte Formate im Bereich Semantik/Pragmatik. mit der Lehrtätigkeit verbundene studienbezogene Verwaltungsaufgaben (z. B. Prüfungsangelegenheiten, Betreuung von Studierenden) experimentelle und statistische Beratung für ViCom-Projekte; insbesondere Unterstützung bei Versuchsdesign, Datenauswertung und Interpretation Planung und Durchführung von methodenorientierten Workshops innerhalb des SPPs; die konkreten Inhalte orientieren sich am Profil der Stelleninhaberin und können u. a. Themen wie deskriptive und inferentielle Statistik, Bayes-Statistik, Programmierung für experimentelle Forschung (z. B. Masking-Techniken) und Methoden der visuellen Kommunikation umfassen.

Ihr Profil:
Folgende Voraussetzungen sollten Sie mitbringen:

abgeschlossene Promotion in Linguistik oder einer benachbarten Disziplin; in Ausnahmefällen ist eine Bewerbung mit Masterabschluss möglich, sofern besondere Befähigung und umfangreiche Erfahrung in experimenteller/empirischer Linguistik und universitärer Lehre nachgewiesen werden können
Schwerpunkt in (formaler) Semantik/Pragmatik
Erfahrung in experimenteller/empirischer Linguistik (z. B. psycholinguistische Studien, multimodale Kommunikation, statistische Datenanalyse) und Kenntnisse gängiger Software- und Analyseumgebungen
Lehrerfahrung im Bereich Semantik/Pragmatik und/oder experimenteller Linguistik
sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse (Veranstaltungen teilweise auf Deutsch)
Organisationstalent sowie eigenständige und strukturierte Arbeitsweise

We are seeking a committed individual to stand in for the SPP coordinator in teaching and to provide methodological support for experimental research within the Priority Program. Priority Program 2392 entered its second funding phase at the end of 2025 and comprises 16 research projects as well as a central project, in which this position is located.

Responsibilities:
Your future responsibilities include:

scientific research on semantics, pragmatics, and/or experimental linguistics
teaching courses (4 hours per week per semester) in the BA and MA programs in Linguistics in the area of (theoretical) semantics and pragmatics. The precise content of the seminars will be aligned with the profile of the position holder; both theoretically oriented and experimentally/methodologically oriented formats in semantics/pragmatics are possible. Study-related administrative tasks associated with teaching (e.g., examinations, advising students) are part of the position
scientific research on experimental design, data collection, experimental programming and statistical analysis
experimental and statistical consulting for ViCom projects; in particular, support with experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation

Research Assistant (f/m/d)

The position comprises 65 % of the regular weekly working hours (currently 25.87 hours per week) and is limited to a period of three years. It is to be filled at the earliest possible date. Remuneration is in accordance with pay grade 13 TV-L.

The position is embedded in the DFG-funded research project “Lying and Commitment in the Visual Modality” (directed by Dr. Mailin Antomo, Seminar for German Philology, University of Göttingen, and Prof. Dr. Emanuel Viebahn, Department of Philosophy, University of Hamburg). The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team within the project and will have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualification (PhD). The position is based at the University of Göttingen but includes short research stays at the University of Hamburg. The project is part of the DFG Priority Programme 2392 “Visual Communication” (https://vicom.info) and investigates, both theoretically and experimentally, whether lying is possible using visual means such as gestures, emojis, and pictures. It will also explore whether these forms of visual communication generate commitment and can count as assertions.

Conduct research related to the project; contribute to planning, conducting, and analysing empirical studies
Contribute to the publication and presentation of research results
Supervise student assistants affiliated with the project

Your profile

You hold an excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in linguistics, philology, philosophy, or a related field, with a focus on semantics/pragmatics (if you are close to completing your Master’s degree, you may submit the certificate at a later stage).
You have initial experience in planning, conducting, and analysing empirical (linguistic) investigations.
You have a strong interest in the project’s research focus, are highly motivated, and have strong teamwork, writing, and communication skills.
You possess very good English language skills
