Together with other experts, ViCom-PI Silva Ladewig contributed her knowledge to an episode of the WDR 5 Neugier genügt (Curiosity is enough). The programme’s title, Der Zeigefinger – viel mehr als ein Körperteil (The index finger – much more than just a body part), already reveals what the programme is about: pointing gestures. In her segments, Silva Ladewig explains how gestures, and the index finger in particular, are used in political debates and how it can be (mis)understood. She also describes the index finger taboo, for example, pointing to a person in a group is considered taboo in many cultures. The entire programme can be found here.
