Emanuel Viebahn is Professor of Philosophy of Language at the University of Hamburg. He received his DPhil in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and has taught at Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Universität Zürich. Research visits have taken him to the University of Cambridge, the University of Sydney, LMU München and the University of New South Wales. Emanuel Viebahn’s research interests lie in the philosophy of language and communication, as well as in metaphysics. Currently, he is working on insincere communication and misinformation, on the semantics and pragmatics of linguistic and pictorial communication, and on the philosophy of fiction. From 2016 until 2024, he was coordinator of the DFG network The semantics and metasemantics of context-sensitive language. Since 2022, he has been a founding committee member of the Philosophy of Language Association (PLA).
