A new paper from the ModaKiS project has been published in Cognitive Development with the title „The role of modality compatibility in language processing of children with and without developmental language disorder“.

The study examined modality switching in children with developmental language disorder (DLD) and compared their performance with that of typically developing children.

The findings show that modality switching in children with DLD is influenced by modality compatibility. While no group differences emerged in conditions with lower verbal demands, differences became apparent when verbal input increased. Under these conditions, the performance of children with DLD was not affected by modality compatibility. Instead, children with DLD outperformed their typically developing peers in incompatible conditions.

These findings suggest modality-specific differences in language processing between children with and without DLD.
